Many of Ibiza’s old fincas have been revamped into holiday getaways, but few with such charm as Can Xicu. This former farmhouse has been lovingly restored and elegantly updated, and in a manner that has retained oodles of its original rustic character. Knotty sabina wood beams, chunky timber furnishings and cream-coloured dry stone blend with cool whitewash, Sandi-chic styling and designer pieces; hanging light bulbs and pattern textured glass even add a touch of industrial chic. A tasteful collection of modern artwork, too, complements the understated, stylish vibe you discover throughout.
The main part of the house you’ll find a spacious open-plan area complete with a swish modern kitchen and long table for up to a dozen diners. The living room in particular exudes homestyle comfort, with low-slung modular sofas where you can flop in front of the log fire. Underfloor heating also means the property is always cosy, regardless of season.
The living area opens onto the garden, and a real highlight of the villa. Clusters of silver-purple lavender fill the air with their distinctive fragrance, alongside bright pink bougainvillaea and orange trees heavy with fruit. Ancient stone terraces skirt tidy lawns while rows of bamboo rustle in the warm breeze, and beyond is the rich red earth of surrounding farmland. If you’re looking for a genuine slice of bucolic bliss, you’ve found it.
Lazy summer days demand time around the pool, and the one here is a beauty. At 17m x 5m it’s large by most standards – great for swimming laps as much as just cooling off – with salt-filtered water and deck lined with smooth polished concrete. There’s no shortage of poolside loungers either, while winding stone-clad pathways lead to a variety of secluded chill-out spaces if you fancy some quiet solo-time. An alfresco dining area also provides opportunities for dinner under the stars.
The villa has four air-conditioned bedrooms – three in the main house and another with separate entry via the courtyard, and each with its own bathroom with a walk-in shower. Decor is a blend of rough stone or white plaster walls, with rustic-style furnishings and an elegant simplicity perfectly in tune with the rest of the house.
