Useful Info

What is Tulum known for?

This beach town on the Yucatán Peninsula is known for its white sand beaches and turquoise water, Mayan cliffside ruins and spectacular cenotes. Tulum is also a destination for wellness, excellent gastronomy and a thriving design scene.

What makes Tulum different from Cancún or Playa del Carmen?

Tulum is less developed than Cancún and Playa del Carmen and remains low-rise with smaller and more boutique accommodation options in comparison to the big resorts found in these neighbouring areas. Tulum is loved for its barefoot approach to luxury, strong wellness offering and bohemian spirit.

How do you get to Tulum?

Tulum’s new international airport (TQO) has made it more accessible than ever with direct flights to US and Canada. From the UK and Europe, the closest airport with direct flights is Cancún airport (CUN) which is a 90-minute drive from Tulum. You can also fly from the UK and Europe to Tulum via Mexico City or a major US airport such as New York or Miami.

What is there to do in Tulum?

Beyond days spent at the spectacular beaches, you can visit the cliffside Mayan ruins, swim in the cenotes (natural sinkhole filled with groundwater) and enjoy natural beauty at the Sian Ka’an Biosphere Reserve. Tulum also has a wide array of wellness activities, design-led shops and excellent restaurants and cocktail bars.

Is Tulum suitable for families or groups?

Tulum is well suited to both families and groups. The excellent villa options make Tulum ideal for multi-generational trips, celebration holidays or groups of friends looking for a relaxing break. The varied activities on offer mean there is something to suit all ages and tastes.

What is the best time to visit Tulum?

Tulum can be visited throughout the year with consistent average temperatures of 28°C to 32°C. In general, the dry season runs November to April with the warmest and sunniest weather. The wet season runs May to October and often brings with it afternoon rain. The upside to this wetter time of year is quieter crowds and lush green landscapes.

How many days should I spend in Tulum?

To really get to know and enjoy Tulum, a minimum of five days is recommended. You can easily take a week or two vacation here, relaxing at the beautiful beaches and using Tulum as a jumping off point for exploring the interior of the Yucatán Peninsula.
