Cartagena Luxury Villas & Holiday Destinations

Historic townhouses, vibrant culture and curated stays within Cartagena’s colourful old city.

Why Cartagena Is Best Experienced in a Luxury Villa

More relaxed than Colombia’s inland cities, Bogotá and Medellín, Cartagena offers the culture and energy of this magical country at a more unhurried pace.

While its UNESCO World Heritage city centre is the initial draw, its culinary scene draws travellers to extend their stays. With premium local ingredients and a mix of Caribbean, African, Indigenous and Spanish influences, food here spans creative fine dining, elegant rooftop restaurants and mouthwatering street food dishes.

With its year-round tropical climate, Cartagena is a city best enjoyed outside from a morning coffee in a plaza to evenings spent on a roof terrace. Meanwhile, our collection of luxury villas with private pools and ample interior courtyards are the perfect base.

Useful Info

What does a typical day in Cartagena feel like?

In Cartagena, known historically as Cartagena de Indias, the best days start with an early morning stroll through the old centre as the city wakes up is particularly special. Walking between the plazas of Plaza de los Coches, Plaza de la Aduana and Plaza de Bolivar is a good start. Grab a coffee or some fruit from the market and take in the colourful architecture before the heat rises. A long lunch and time at the pool call so head back to your beautiful house for a relaxed afternoon before venturing back out at sunset for a rooftop cocktail, fun dinner and night of music and dancing in this spirited city.

Is Cartagena more about culture or the beach?

Cartagena is more about culture than the beach. Travellers are called to this city for its historic center, architecture and lively music, dance and food scene. While it sits on the Caribbean coast, the best beaches are visited either as a day trip from Cartagena or as the next stop on a Colombia itinerary.

What is the nicest part of Cartagena?

The old walled town of Cartagena with its beautiful Spanish-era architecture, elegant plazas and array of rooftop restaurants and bars is often deemed the nicest part of Cartagena. However, Getsemaní is equally lovely. Sitting just outside the city walls, Getsemaní has a more local feel with streets covered in colorful murals and lively squares filled with music. All our villas are located in the old town and Getsemaní, the best locations for a for a Cartagena vacation.

Why is Cartagena so famous?

Recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the city of Cartagena is known as a dream vacation for its beautifully preserved old city. Its historic walled centre is filled with cobbled streets lined with colourful Spanish-era mansions. Situated on Colombia’s Caribbean coast, it’s often known as a jumping-off point for nearby beaches and the close by Isla Barú and Rosario Islands. It is also known for its Afro-Caribbean influences, vibrant music and dancing culture and seafood cuisine.

What is the best thing to do in Cartagena?

Exploring the historic walled centre on foot is the best way to experience this charming city. Getting lost in its colourful streets which lead to churches, plazas and hidden courtyards is all part of the appeal. Walk along the historic ramparts at sunset and enjoy live music and street performers in the many squares.
