The first of these exclusive homes is Casa Nahual, just a few steps from Mazunte’s Rinconcito beach and enveloped in lush jungle and native plants. Architecturally inspired by the ancient ruins of the Zapotec civilization, Monte Albán, it was built using local materials of wood, clay and stone.

Compared to other beach destinations in Mexico, Mazunte is much smaller, less developed and low key. It has a rustic charm, a bohemian spirit and a strong wellness offering. There are no major hotels but some excellent home rentals and vacation rentals.
The closest airports to Mazunte are Huatulco (HUX) and Puerto Escondido (PXM) which are approximately 90 mins and 2 hours drive from Mazunte respectively. From the UK and Europe, the ideal option is to travel to Huatulco or Puerto Escondido with a stop off in Mexico City.
Mazunte encourages slow stays that centre around the beach. Alongside the main beach in Mazunte, there are a number of other nearby beaches that can be visited including San Agustinillo, Zipolite and Puerto Ángel. Sunset hour is special here and there’s unforgettable experiences like boat trips to spot dolphins and turtle releases at the beach. Meanwhile, there’s a thriving wellness scene with yoga and meditation classes and spa treatments like massages.
Mazunte is an ideal location for families who want a low-key beach destination with excellent access to nature and a great choice of villas. Mazunte can be visited all year round. The dry season tends to run November to April with warm days, lots of sun and very little rain. December and January often have the best weather but this brings busier crowds. During the wet season (May to October) there tend to be rain showers each afternoon which means lush green landscapes and the finest beaches left peaceful.
We recommend a minimum of four nights to really slow down and enjoy the calm and tranquility of Mazunte.
