Formentera does not have an airport and is only reached by ferry from Ibiza. Skipping the plane is part of the charm and Ibiza is very close and comfortable to get to. There are regular daily crossings throughout the year with journey times typically around 30–45 minutes. In the peak summer season, there are additional daily crossings.
The main season in Formentera runs from May to October. June and September are particularly popular for warm water, long days and a calmer atmosphere. July and August are the hottest and busiest months while spring and early autumn offer a quieter feel with excellent conditions for hiking and cycling.
Formentera is compact and easy to navigate. While some guests hire a car, it isn’t essential in Formentera. Instead, scooters and bicycles are great for getting around with most beaches and villages within easy reach.
Formentera is known for its clear, shallow waters, famous beaches, salt flats and relaxed, low-key lifestyle. Development is limited compared to other Balearic islands giving it a more wild feel. Beyond this, it has a famous hippy market at La Mola, highly rated restaurants with excellent service and houses for rent where comfort and style are available in equal measure.

Most restaurants, beach clubs and shops operate seasonally, with the widest choice available from late spring through early autumn. However, a smaller selection remains open year-round in the island’s main villages such as Sant Francesc.
