Useful Info

The Geography

Mallorca is the largest of the Balearic Islands, spanning approximately 3,640 square kilometres. To put it in perspective, it is over six times the size of Ibiza. Because of its size, there are a variety of landscapes to explore, including mountain ranges, rugged coastlines, and many quaint villages and market towns, giving you the feeling of unlimited opportinuties for exploring.

Travel connections

United Airlines now flies direct from New York to Palma in just 8 hours, and more direct US routes are in the pipeline. There are many connecting flights through the major European hubs such as Madrid, London, Barcelona or Frankfurt.

Sunshine calculator

Mallorca enjoys a classic Mediterranean climate with over 300 days of sunshine annually, making it a year-round destination. Summers (June to August) are hot and dry, with temperatures averaging 25-30°C (77-86°F), perfect for beachgoers. Spring and autumn are mild and pleasant, with temperatures ranging from 17-23°C (63-73°F), ideal for outdoor activities like hiking or cycling. Winters (December to February) are cooler but still mild, averaging 10-15°C (50-59°F), with occasional rainfall, offering a quieter, tranquil charm.

FAVOURITE TOWNS AND VILLAGES

There are 67 municipalities in the Balearic Islands, of which Mallorca has 53, compared to Ibiza’s 5. The Tramuntana mountains are home to some of the most picturesque villages in Mallorca, if not Europe, including Deià, Sóller, Valldemossa, Pollensa and Fornalutx. Capdapera is a historical walled village in the east close to Artá and Santanyí in the south has a growing art scene.

ACTIVITIES

As well as hiking and of course beach hopping Mallorca is a haven for cyclists. Bikers flock to Mallorca all year round due to the climate but also the incredible variety of scenic routes, particularly around Pollensa and the Tramuntana mountains. There are a growing number of vineyards for winetasting and countless medieval towns and villages to visit.

FESTIVALS

The Sant Sebastià Festival in January, held in Palma, features bonfires, music, and dancing in honor of the city’s patron saint. The Sant Joan Festival in June celebrates the summer solstice with fireworks, fire dances, and beach parties. In Sóller, the Fira i Firó reenacts the island’s historic victory over pirates. The Sa Rua Carnival in February brings colorful parades, while the Wine Fair in Binissalem highlights Mallorca’s wine heritage.
