Heritage homes in the historic town of Barichara, in Colombia’s Santander region.
High up in the Andean foothills and overlooking a dramatic river canyon, there is a reason Barichara is often referred to as one of Colombia’s prettiest towns. Almost frozen in time, here cobbled streets are lined with low-rise whitewashed houses topped and craft workshops are found on every corner.
Translating to “place of rest” in the native Guane language, Barichara lives up to its name, inviting visitors to slow down and settle into its gentle pace. With a pleasant climate year-round, days here are spent visiting local artisans, enjoying the excellent food scene and heading into the canyon for hikes.
This historic town is best experienced by staying in one of its heritage houses, and our one property in Barichara, Casa Siriri, has been beautifully restored.
Casa Siriri, Barichara
This mountain town moves at an unhurried rhythm and a villa is the best way to experience Barichara’s slow pace. At Casa Siriri you can enjoy slow mornings with a view, long lunches by the pool and terrace dinners under the stars.
Still off-the-beaten-track, Barichara luxury villas are an obvious option if you are looking for an elevated experience and high-end accommodation. Moreover, with Barichara’s historic architecture at the heart of this town’s appeal, staying in a piece of its heritage like Casa Siriri is part of the charm.
Barichara is Colombia’s best-preserved colonial town with whitewashed walls and stone streets set high above the Chicamocha canyon. Our team helps you explore its trails, artisan workshops and quiet corners at your own pace.
At Maven Collection, we handpick properties that we feel are truly spectacular. We have just one villa in Barichara, Casa Siriri, and this heritage home is really special.
This historic four-bedroom property has traditional stone walls, clay tiles and handcrafted details that echo the architectural language of Barichara. Meanwhile, wide openings frame views across the surrounding hills, hammocks are hung in pretty gardens and the pool terrace is a place to gather from morning until night.

Bogotá international airport in Colombia’s capital has flights across the world including direct flights to Europe. From here you can discover popular regions across Colombia with internal flights opening up access to Cartagena, the Caribbean coast, Medellín and more.
Barichara’s climate is known for its reliability and it is warm and pleasant all year round. It is warmer and sunnier than city locations like Bogotá or Medellín, but cooler and less humid than the Caribbean coast. The dry season, which runs from December to March is the ideal season for hiking. However, it is still worth visiting in the rainy season, when the landscape is lush and rain is normally only reserved for the afternoon.
The small town of Barichara can be explored in a couple of days but longer trips are recommended to make the most of the region’s slow pace and excellent hiking. An extended stay in one of Barichara luxury villas means you can enjoy the region’s relaxed rhythm and enjoy the ample outdoor spaces, nice pool and spacious rooms at a heritage house.
Barichara is known as the “prettiest town in Colombia” and is recognised for its remarkably preserved 18th-century colonial architecture, culture, history, churches and crafts. Known for its artisans, it has a range of tours to skilled stonemasons, famous ceramicists and handmade paper workshops available. It is also perfect for foodies and renowned for its cuisine with a mix of farm-to-table dining, high-end restaurants and local delicacies like hormigas culonas (large roasted ants). Often compared with Villa de Leyva, Barichara is better preserved, more intimate and has less hustle and bustle.
Barichara is absolutely worth visiting and is widely considered Colombia’s most beautiful town. A Colombia find that is still off the radar, it is loved for its impeccably preserved colonial architecture, quiet cobbled streets and spectacular Santander mountain scenery. People journey to Barichara for a peaceful and authentic cultural escape.
Yes, Barichara is suitable for holidays for both families and large groups of friends. The relaxed location suits both multi-generational trips or group holidays.
