Few holiday villas in Ibiza can claim such a richly historic past as Casa Gatzara. Originally used as a monastery, the original building dates back four centuries, and has been in the same family for over 50 years, who have lovingly adapted and restored the home with respect for its past. Typically Ibiza-style whitewashed plaster, gnarly ancient beams and studded wooden doors contrast playfully with an extensive collection of modern artwork and exotic sculptures.
There’s plenty to explore, indoors and out. Inside you’ll find a snug lounge with corner fireplace and built-in seating, a second high-ceilinged sitting room, and a lovely Swiss-designed, country-style kitchen complete with an old-fashioned log-fired oven, plus all the contemporary appliances, of course. Outside, the house is surrounded by beautiful gardens dotted with flowering fruit trees, together with numerous different seating areas in which to relax and enjoy the sigh-worthy views over the countryside and out to the shimmering sea.
The centrepiece of the garden is a fabulous 10-metre-long swimming pool surrounded by an extensive terracotta-tiled terrace. Various poolside spots to flop include cushioned sunbeds, a shaded lounge area and a trio of bamboo canopied daybeds. Bluetooth speakers mean you can take your summer tunes poolside, too, plus you’ll find a Weber grill for barbecues here. There’s no shortage of space for alfresco dining either with space for up to 15 people.
If you’re looking for a book, the villa has an impressive library so you’ll never be short of something to read. Alternatively, all the TVs in the house come with Sky channels. Fancy a detox? You’ll find both a steam room for up to three people and a sauna for up to two. All four bedrooms are air-conditioned, too, and most have ensuite bathrooms. Two of the bedrooms are located in a separate annex apartment with its own small private terrace.
