Flanked by flowering bougainvillea, you step through an antique studded wooden door and enter a grand residence brimming with old-world Cartagenero charm. Spread over three levels, just exploring the broad stone arches, wood-beamed ceilings and colourful courtyards of this heritage-rich colonial mansion is a joy. On the ground floor, you’ll find a drawing room, a kitchen and two salons – one with a lofty double-height ceiling and windows out to the street. Explore one floor down to an enchanting pool terrace, where you can cool off surrounded by tropical flora and in water that extends right under the building.
Head upstairs and you discover more living spaces bursting with character, arranged with genuine antique furnishings, original artworks and quaint local handicrafts. Continue upwards and crowning this magnificent townhouse is a superbly spacious rooftop terrace. With its comfy built-in seating, dining area and views over the Cartagena rooftops and out to sea – it’s the perfect spot for lounging in the sun, balmy alfresco dinners and magical moments gazing over the Caribbean sunsets.
This wonderful Cartagena townhouse sleeps up to 14 guests across its seven bedrooms. One room on the lower ground level has twin beds with a separate bathroom and direct access to the pool terrace. The upper ground and top floor both have rooms with a king-size bed and ensuite bathroom. On the first floor, a sky-blue kids’ room has two twin beds plus a small balcony overlooking the street, while a sun-yellow room features twin four-poster beds. A second-floor room features an ensuite with a tub, and the master bedroom has an ensuite and balcony with pool views.
You’ll wake up to breakfast prepared daily by the house staff, and any extra meals can also be arranged. If you’d rather visit the market and cook for yourself, there’s also use of a fully equipped kitchen for preparing meals and snacks. Be sure to treat yourself to dinner at neighbouring La Vitrola, where a live band plays to guests every evening for some pure Colombian magic.
