“Sleek 21st-century minimalism is not at the expense of comfort…with plush sofas, cushioned wicker seating and comfy spots to chill scattered around the villa.”

Located outside the quaint village of San Juan in the peaceful and picturesque northeast corner of Ibiza, this luxury villa is a genuine stunner. Its supermodel looks are matched by a top pick of high-end features that include sunken garden jacuzzi and swish poolside palapa. Extensive grounds are scattered with fruit trees, and it’s all surrounded by lush forests and rolling hills. What’s more, you’re just minutes’ drive from the north’s rugged coast and scenic coves.

The Design

Upon first arrival at Can Carmen your eyes are drawn to a striking line of white paving slabs slicing towards the main entrance, setting the tone for this seriously stylish piece of contemporary architecture. And the rest of the luxury villa more than delivers on this early promise, with a series of sleek and sun-filled spaces that ooze uber-modern sophistication.

The property is built over two floors, with a flawless finish of crisp white walls, polished concrete floors and chic furnishings throughout. Sleek 21st-century minimalism is not at the expense of comfort, either, with plush sofas, cushioned wicker seating and comfy spots to chill scattered around the villa. Glass partitions on both sides of the main living room also open to create a space that connects directly with the glorious outside.

And the villa’s extensive 17,000 square metre grounds match the villa in their clean-lined design, with rectangles of manicured lawns wrap around an immaculate pool area. Adjacent, a swathe of richly red soil provides for a Mediterranean garden with all kinds of fruit trees from orange and lemon to cherry and quince. An ancient waterwheel and irrigation system also stands as a reminder of the former farmland’s previous incarnation.

The Details

In line with the villa’s spectacular looks, you’ll find an array of top-notch features to help dial-up the luxe on holiday. Just next to the sleek 14m x 4m salt-filtered swimming pool, there’s a sunken jacuzzi-style hot tub for an extra relaxing dip. A total of eight cushioned loungers and a Bali bed means there are always plenty of spots to soak up some rays. For some time in the shade, there’s a large wood-decked palapa at the end of the pool with comfy seating and a summer kitchen. But it’s not all just a playground for grown-ups, with a sandpit and fab treehouse for the kids to have fun, too.

There are eight bedrooms in all, accommodating up to groups of 16 – so perfect for big groups or multigenerational families. Most rooms are spread across two floors in the main house, with a 70-square-metre master suite featuring a private terrace, dressing room and ensuite with hydro-massage tub. A separate guesthouse is set across the garden and has two double bedroom suites, and its own lounge with mini-fridge and coffee maker.

    S'Arenal Petit

A favourite with the locals S’Arenal Petit is very family friendly with easy parking, shallow waters over white sand and little coves for children to explore. It’s also the location of one our favourite restaurants Rebrots.

    Es Cucons

Cosmopolitan Santa Gertrudis has no shortage of interiors stores, but Tienda Es Cucons is in
a league of its own. An off-shoot of the beloved Santa Inés agroturismo of the same name,
this rabbit-warren store in a converted finca is the epitome of laidback island style. The
teeny terrace is packed with textural finds – think raffia-framed mirrors, woven placemats
and traditional Ibicencan shoulder baskets. Indoors, the low-roofed interior is crammed
with home décor, table linens, clothing, artwork and jewellery that adheres to a low-impact,
small-batch manifesto. Owners Jaime and Barbara champion local makers where possible,
so expect one-off ceramics and woodwork pieces that are handcrafted on the island as well
as established brands like the breezy, bohemian, California-fave Free People.
