“For a blissful jungle-like swimming experience, on the edge of the forest lies a natural water pool with seating looking over the water into the trees.”
Located in Colombia’s lush green coffee-growing region just outside the town of Montenegro, this ecological finca is the perfect place to unwind amongst nature. You can take a stroll through fragrant orchards or practice your downward dog on the special roofed deck, surrounded by forest with the air filled with the chirruping of local birdlife. And if you fancy exploring, this particularly picturesque part of Colombia offers fantastic hiking trails and charming colonial-style mountain villages scattered with brightly coloured houses.
The Design
Much of Finca Quindio is built in the style of a Japanese tea house, with sliding panelled doors and bamboo ceilings, together with a number of buildings with overlapping roofs, interconnected by pretty walkways and internal patios. Simple concrete floors chime beautifully with the abundance of natural wood, cow-hide rugs and framed mirrors for an inviting, rustic vibe.
This home is all about the connection with nature and the wooden kitchen with stone floors and the adjacent dining area with its large rustic table, are both open-sided with views out over rolling lawns and forest. Ceramics are hand-painted by the owner, and wall-hung textiles and bedspreads are handwoven by Colombian indigenous artisans.
The Details
For a blissful jungle-like swimming experience, on the edge of the forest lies a natural water pool with seats looking over the water into the trees. Numerous discreet seating areas are to be found around the house and grounds at picturesque points. Like most areas of the house, the warm and inviting lounge with its large L-shaped sofa can be fully opened up to feel as if you are relaxing in the heart of the surrounding countryside.
The three bedrooms in the main house all have double beds, rainfall showers and brightly coloured hammocks on private terraces looking out into the dense greenery. A fourth and very private bedroom suite is set just away from the main building.
The finca’s cows are frequently seen roaming the grounds, and guests can watch them being milked in the mornings or saddle up and go for a guided ride around the extensive grounds. There is also a driver available to take you around the region and enjoy some of the spectacular produce this area has to offer, such as coffees, cacaos and wines, and other delicious local specialities.
