“Walls made entirely of glass glide smoothly open, dissolving delineations of inside and outdoor space.”

A privileged position overlooking Ibiza’s picturesque northern coast is just one of numerous elements that makes this luxury hilltop hideaway amongst the island’s most exclusive. Striking contemporary architecture combines with interiors that are as characterful as they are chic. Gaze upon the wonderful views and spectacular sunsets from the infinity pool to pine-scented gardens to the rooftop terrace. And if you can tear yourself away, you’re just five minutes from the iconic sands of Benirrás beach.

The Design

A rugged bumpy camino winds its way up a pine-scattered hillside, and at the top in striking contrast is Can Zama – an arresting example of modern minimalist architecture. Designed by renowned British architect Mark Guard, flawless white facades form soaring geometry against the crisp blue that score high on wow-factor.

As you step inside through the main entrance the villa is divided into two zones. To the right is the ultra-modern kitchen, swish dining room and spacious lounge where you find a log fireplace, plush sofas and the first glimpse of the incredible views. To the left, across a polished courtyard are three of the villa’s five bedrooms, while upstairs are the remaining two suites, both offering direct access to a roof terrace with spectacular sea-view panoramas. Further accommodation is found in a bedroom under the pool.

Polished micro-cement flooring throughout provides a cool counterpoint to the bold contemporary artworks, warm woods and exotic flourishes that characterise the interiors. Each room has a wall made entirely of glass which glides smoothly open, dissolving delineations of inside and outdoor space. From its creative eclectic decor to sophisticated design – all set in over six acres of forest, orchards and landscaped gardens – this luxury villa stands out amongst the island’s finest.

The Details

Can Zama more than matches its rock-star looks with an impressive range of top-notch features. Just across a stretch of lawn lies the pool area, with its 18m x 4m of shimmering water, sleek infinity edge and views across the surrounding tree line. Heating takes the chill off over cooler months, and there are loads of cushioned loungers and shaded daybeds for poolside flopping. For outside dining, a huge pergola has a table for up to 20 and a charcoal barbecue for table-side grilling. You can even cook with produce from the garden’s own harvest of fruit and vegetables.

Elsewhere outdoors, various beanbags, wooden chaise and hammocks provide numerous spots under the dappled shade of olive and pine trees – there’s even a bar hidden in the forest great for late night revelry. Another popular chill-out zone is a large sunken lounge with outdoor fireplace and SONOS sound system for instant vibes. For sundowners, however, it’s hard to beat the villa’s huge rooftop terrace – sunsets are nothing short of magical here, and the perfect place for sunrise yoga sessions, too.

Each of the bedrooms has been individually styled by famed interior designer Rosarinho Gabriel, from scandi-chic to the more sumptuous. All open to outside space, as well as their own bathroom with regularly replenished, eco-friendly liquid Marseille soap from La Compagnie de Provence. In-room tech also comes high-end, with the likes of B&W docks, L’Occitane bath products and smart TVs. For the big-screen experience you can snuggle up with a movie in the villa’s comfy cinema room, complete with full Sky package, all UK channels and loads of movies.

Underfloor heating and open fires in the lounge and bedrooms makes Can Zama ideal a truly year-round villa that can be enjoyed over the coolest months.  What’s more, it benefits from a house manager and daily maid service on hand to run errands, make drinks and lay out breakfast each morning.

The teeny terrace is packed with textural finds – think raffia-framed mirrors, woven placemats and traditional Ibicencan shoulder baskets.
