“Lines between inside and outside spaces blur in that wonderfully Mediterranean fashion, merging seamlessly into the villa’s lush tropical gardens you can almost lose yourself in.”

Hidden amongst swathes of pine forest in the south east of the island, it can be hard to believe this luxury villa is a mere 10-minute drive from Ibiza Town and the neighbouring village of Jesús is packed with places to eat. Lush tropical gardens add to its sense of remoteness and seclusion, and it’s easy to find your own quiet snug or corner too among its 450 square metres of beautifully decorated space. Grand yet intimate, luxurious yet earthy, this wonderful property balances the best of both worlds.

The Design

Upon entering Can Riviere, there’s a distinct sense of entering a secluded and self-contained world of your own. It’s a wonderfully inviting holiday retreat where a soothing palette of earthy hues set the mood throughout its numerous eye-pleasing spaces.  An eclectic collection of quirky and exotic objects sit alongside organic fabrics and various other natural materials including sandstone walls, polished granite and pebble-set flooring. Sabina wood beam ceilings and rattan touches add to the rustic aesthetic, while designer lighting and contemporary flourishes ramp up the chic.

An incredibly spacious living room manages to feel at the same time cosy, thanks to a log-burning fire and invitingly plush sofas. Lines between inside and outside spaces blur in that wonderfully Mediterranean fashion, merging seamlessly into the villa’s wonderfully lush tropical gardens you can almost lose yourself in. Bedrooms are also spread between the main villa and a separate guest house, meaning groups can enjoy their own space, too. It all adds up to a rather enchanting hideaway you’ll happily spend most of your holiday holed up in.

The Details

Can Riviere matches its superb design with an equally impressive raft of high-end features. At 14 metres in length, the shimmering green pool is large enough for laps and can also be heated over the cooler months. An abundance of shaded sun loungers as well as a Bali bed means there’s always somewhere comfy to recline after your dip. There’s a poolside snug, too, as well as an outside lounge with Smeg fridge for cool drinks within easy reach. And if you want to accompany that cold beer with a flame-grilled bite, you’ll find a Japanese-style Green Egg barbecue at hand.

A family country-style kitchen also provides top-range appliances including a Nespresso machine and Smeg cooker. There are shade-dappled spots for everything from sitting with a morning coffee to a dinner get-together under the stars, with a firepit for a little added warmth if the mood takes you.

Up to 12 guests can be accommodated between the villa’s six bedrooms, each individually styled and most with their own ensuite bathroom. Two bedrooms in the casita share a fabulous outside spa-style bathroom, complete with outside shower, deep soaking tub and tropical vibe.

    Cala Olivera

This is a remote spot, surrounded by woods and hardly visited. The sand is coarse and the sea floor is rather rocky. But if what you look for is peace, this is your place. There is no beach-bar and the nearest populated area is the development at Roca Llisa. You can also bathe at the neighbouring Cala d’Espart, a rocky area with a number of fishing huts.
