“…you’ll still see the original flagstone flooring underfoot and sabina wood beams overhead, which are built around a central skylight that floods the space with sunshine.”

While just a few minutes’ drive from the cosmopolitan village of Santa Gertrudis in the scenic centre of Ibiza, this charming country finca boasts a blissful sense of remoteness. The six-bedroom farmhouse dates back over 300 years and has been carefully updated to the standards of a luxury holiday villa. A garden rich in scented flowering plants and soaring palms adds to the feeling of living amongst nature, while the vistas over the surrounding landscape are truly splendid.

The Design

There’s little more welcoming than a cosy rustic farmhouse, and Can Blay offers just that – with the bonus of some wonderfully characterful touches. This three-century-old finca was lovingly restored in 2010, ensuring it lost none of its bucolic charm in the process. In the cosy living room you’ll still see the original flagstone flooring underfoot and sabina wood beams overhead, which are built around a central skylight that floods the space with sunshine. Stone archways and chunky wooden doors add to the timelessly rural vibe.

More modern accents like brass side tables, designer lamps and contemporary light fittings contrast tastefully with the more rustic elements, while vintage wireless radios, woven wall hangings and antique wood carvings infuse the villa with a playful and eclectic feel. Paired with the main building is a self-contained guesthouse, which continues in the same charming finca styling.

Many vantage points afford uninterrupted views of the surrounding countryside, especially from around the villa’s three hectares of gardens and grounds. Here you can relax amongst ancient olive trees, blooming bougainvillaea, scented jasmine and fruit orchards, from which guests are invited to help themselves. If you’re looking for somewhere to experience a serene slice of rural Ibiza, you’ll find it here.

The Details

While the villa has maintained plenty of rustic charm, you’ll still find all the modern comforts you’d expect from a high-end holiday stay. The pool for starters at 12m x 5m is big enough for a decent swim when the mood takes you. There are plentiful sun loungers waiting for you when you’re done – each with their own head shader and some under a trio of giant palm trees. A canopied Bali bed also provides the perfect spot for a poolside siesta. There is also a trampoline and ping-pong table for some kid-friendly fun in the sun.

Also next to the pool you’ll find a gas barbecue and wood-fire pizza oven, great for fun outdoor dining. Each of the buildings also has its own fully-equipped country-style kitchen if you’d rather more conventional cooking. Wherever you cook, you have the choice of two alfresco dining tables and a dining space inside.

The villa has six double and twin bedrooms in total, sleeping up to 12 guests. All mix up rustic with modern touches, and come air conditioning and their own bathroom (mostly ensuite). The master suite and three bedrooms are set in the main house, with the other two in the separate casita, with independent access via the garden.
